TS870RC - a remote radio control app for OSX


 

A Mac OS X software to your Kenwood TS-870 Transceiver.

It works on 64 bit-Intel Macs from OS 10.6  'Snow Leopard' up to

OS 10.14 'Mojave'.  *

- Features 

 This app is a remote control to some preferred tasks of the famous TS-870 transceiver.

 Here are the features:


 

  - Set Amateur Radio Bands with preselected buttons.

  • 160, 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 12, 10 meters.
  • 136 kHz, 475 kHz and 5.3 MHz for testing.

 

 - Set Frequency with up/down button shortcuts.

  • Keyboard equivalents:
  • 10    Hz  =     left/right
  • 100  Hz  =     up/down
  • 1    kHz  =     alt - up/down
  • 10   kHz  =     cmd - up/down
  • 100 kHz  =     alt + cmd - up/down
  • 1    MHz  =     page up / page down

  • Antenna 1         =  "cmd  a"

  • Memory Write    = "cmd  w"
  • RX/TX-drawer      = "cmd  t"


- Set Frequency By 10 digit Keyboard.

  • You can use your mouse within the app, or your real keyboard.
  • "E" means Enter (Key-Equivalent "Return key")
  • "D" means Delete and will trash all 5 digits at once. (Key-Equivalent "Backstep key")
  • You will need to enter the desired frequency by pushing a 5 digit number.
  • Resolution 1 kHz, (example: "14250 Enter").
  • If your desired frequency is below 10 MHz, you will need to begin with a "0" (zero), like "07100 Enter".
  • If your desired frequency is below 1 MHz, you will need to begin with "00" (double-zero), like "00800 Enter".

 - Set Radio Mode with buttons.

  • LSB, USB, CW, AM, FM, FSK.

 - List Memories

  • Push the "List" button to show memory 1...10 into status window.

 

 - Select Memories

  • You may select 10 memories of your TS-870.
  • If memories are selected, the TS-870 is locked.

 

  - Write Memories

  • Push the "MW" button to open the Memory Write panel.
  • Push the button 1 to 10 to write data into memory.
  • Split mode supported.

 

 - Data Update

  • The program will read/update data of the TS-870 into the TS870RC app.
  • Values: frequency, TX status, split status, mode, bandwidth, antenna and tuner.

- Select Antenna Terminal

  • Select Antenna 1 or 2  (Key-Equivalent "cmd  a"  or  "cmd  b").

- Select RF Input Attenuator

  • Select between 0db, 6dB, 12 dB.

 - Set  RF Gain

  • Switch RF Gain Hi / LO with a button.  (Key-Equivalent "cmd  r").
  • The level is set to about S8 meter scale.
  • For noiseless reception on high level signals.
  • The button label indicates actual state of gain.

 

- Select SSB Receiver AGC control

  • Select between 6 presets.

 

- Set  Audio Squelch

  • Switch AF Squelch on with a button. (Key-Equivalent "cmd  s").
  • The level is set to about S5 meter scale.
  • The button label indicates actual state of squelch.


- Adjust Audio Volume

  •  Stepwise up / down.

 

- Lock

  • Lock frontpanel buttons and knobs of the TS-870.

 - TX inhibit

  • Block transmit function.

 

- Select desired channel spacing

  • Select a desired channel spacing of 10kHz, 5kHz, 9kHz.
  • These selections are related to the 10kHz button only.
  • Press button to change desired channel spacing.

 

 - App "Status monitor"

  • Select Status Monitor from the File Menu. (Key-Equivalent "cmd  m")
  • This will open the right drawer with status informations.

 

 - External Receiver Selector

  • Select switching Rf circuit to extern RX out jack.

 

 - Set TS-870 into transmit mode

  • Push "RTX" on the main window. (Key-Equivalent "cmd  t")
  • This will open the RTX drawer with an  "RX/TX"  button.
  • Push  "RX/TX"  button or the space-key. (Key-Equivalent  "space-key" )
  • "On Air" label will be shown on transmit.
  • Space-Key is only active, when drawer is open.

 

   - Antenna tuner

  • Inside of the RTX drawer you push  insert or bypass the antenna tuner.
  • The "tune" button will start the tuner.
  • The button label indicates actual state of tuner.

 

 - Speech synthesis

  • Push the Voice button to activate OSX speech synthesis.
  • Some actions like frequency, band, mode etc will be spoken from the Mac.
  • The desired Voice can be changed in the OSX System control panel.

 

 - Receiver Bandwidth control

  • Select the desired cut off frequency using up/down buttons.
  • in CW this feature works as Shift control.

 

 - Transmitter Bandwidth control

  • Select the desired TX-bandwidth inside the TX-setup drawer.
  • (Key-equivalent  "cmd  x" ).

 

 - Notch and Beat filter, Noise reduction control

  • Push button to select between desired DSP filters.

 

 - Digital recording System

  • Playback of record # 1 - 4 of the TS-870.
  • Only if optional Kenwood DRU-3 digital recording unit installed.
  • Select Loop control (repeat) of the DRU-3.

 

  - VOX control

  • Switch VOX on/off.
  • Select Vox Gain inside the TX-setup drawer. (Key-equivalent  "cmd  x" ).


   - TS-870  device on/off-state control

  • Ability to switch the transceiver ON or OFF. (if DC power is connected).
  • to support remote IP OSX screen sharing.

 

  - Transmitter-setup drawer

  • Various TX controls in this drawer.
  • Mic Gain - Mic AGC - Mic Equalizer - FM Mic Gain.
  • Processor frequency response low/high.
  • TX Bandwidth and TX shift selector.
  • Vox Gain.
  • AM/CW carrier level selector with ALC reading.

 

   - Split mode support

  • Switch to split mode, if you want
  • Support for split mode in memories (Memory write).

 

  -  Subtone support

  • Full 29 MHz repeater subtone support.

 

  - TX output power control

  • Push button to switch between 10, 50 and 100% output.

 

  - TX Monitor control

  • Switch and select level of TX monitoring volume.

 

   -  New or future bands selectable for testing

  • 136 kHz, 475 kHz and 5.3 MHz band selectors.


    -  Digital and analog readout  S-Meter

  • Select on/off state for TS870RC panel meter.
  • S-value and equivalent antenna voltage is shown in app-display.
  • Seperate analog readout S-meter window.
  • Peak readings on/off.


    -  Mini Logbook

  • Save QSO data in CSV or SSV file.
  • Uses Date/Time and UTC values.
  • Uses localized Date/Time settings.

 

   -  Spectrum analyzer display

  • Simple spectrum scan for band monitoring.

 

   -  Web View

  • Simple Web View to get useful internet websites right at your hand.


    -  Power Amplifier control

  • Activates an external PA on transmit.

 

    -  Display brightness of TS-870

  • External hi / lo brightness control.

 

    -  Reset TS-870

  • Menu item for extern partial reset of the TS-870.


     -  Selectable serial-port baud rate

  • Select between 9600, 19200, 38400 and 57600 baud.

 

     -  Save and load TX audio presets

  • Select between local and dx preset.

 

     -  Separate display panel for transverter usage

  • Shows conversion frequency for 144, 432 and 1296 MHz.

 

     -  Amateur radio Prefixes, Broadcaster and Beacon List 

  • Access to included lists using TextEdit via menu action.
  • List can be modified with personal or preferred data.

 

      -  Receiver incremental tuning (RIT)

  • RIT can be set and offers RX up/down tuning by 10Hz steps

      -  SWR test

  • VSWR can be tested per button via 1 second TX emission.

 

      -  UTC Clock

  • UTC clock panel in main window.
  • Uses localized 12/24hr time settings.

 

       -  Favorite QRG

  • Menu item to save and load a favorite for quick access.


       -  Broadcast menu

  • Menu item to select short wave broadcast bands.
